Cordia Dichotoma: A comprehensive review of its phytochemistry, traditional uses and therapeutic potential
A Varsha Sagar and A Srivani
Indian cherry, or Cordia Dichotoma, is a multipurpose deciduous tree that is widely employed in Siddha, Ayurveda, and Unani traditional medical systems. The phytochemistry, ethnobotanical uses, and pharmacological properties of the plant's seeds, bark, leaves, fruits, and gum are all thoroughly covered in this review. Triterpenoids, flavonoids, sterols, phenolic acids, and essential fatty acids are only a few of the many bioactive substances found in the plant that give it its important medicinal qualities. These include cytotoxic, wound-healing, gastro protective, antioxidant, antibacterial, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory properties. The identification of these phytoconstituents has been made easier by contemporary analytical methods such as mass spectrometry and TLC. C. dichotoma is positioned as a viable natural resource for medication development and integrative healthcare based on the body of data from scientific research and traditional knowledge.
