The Role of neem loaded nanosponges in antimicrobial and regenerative wound healing

Abstract:

The biological process of wound healing is complex and includes remodeling, tissue regeneration, and inflammation. Effective wound care is, however, severely hampered by microbial infections and delayed tissue healing. Nanosponges have emerged as a possible drug delivery method for improved wound healing due to recent developments in nanotechnology. Because of their high drug-loading capacity and porous nature, nanosponges allow for regulated and prolonged drug release at the wound site. Furthermore, the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and regenerating qualities of herbal bioactives like those found in neem (Azadirachta indica) have drawn attention. Neem bioactives, such as nimbidin, azadirachtin, and nimbolide, have shown promise in wound care by preventing microbial growth, lowering oxidative stress, and encouraging collagen formation. The combination of neem-loaded nanosponges for antibacterial and regenerative wound healing is the primary focus of this review, which also highlights the new research findings, benefits over traditional therapies, and mechanism of action of these nanosponges. Additionally, included are formulation difficulties, safety issues, and prospects for clinical translation in the future. Novel wound healing therapies are made possible by the promising approach to infection control and rapid tissue restoration provided by the combination of nanotechnology and phytomedicine.
