Abstract:

Medicinal plants have been acknowledged for their extensive therapeutic benefits, particularly in mitigating the adverse effects of modern pharmaceuticals. Moringa oleifera, commonly referred to as the "drumstick tree," is renowned for its hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties, making it a valuable resource in traditional medicine. This study evaluates the protective effects of Moringa oleifera leaf extract against hepatic toxicity induced by levofloxacin in Swiss albino rats. Key parameters assessed include liver function biomarkers, oxidative stress markers, inflammatory mediators, and histopathological alterations in liver tissues. The findings reveal that Moringa oleifera leaf extract significantly ameliorates levofloxacin-induced hepatic damage by enhancing antioxidant enzyme activity, reducing lipid peroxidation, and modulating inflammatory pathways. These results underscore the potential of Moringa oleifera as a natural hepatoprotective agent, offering a safer approach to managing drug-induced liver toxicity. Further research is warranted to isolate its active compounds, elucidate its mechanisms of action, and explore its clinical relevance in liver health management.
